Sea creatures & chains
Looking at McQueen for like the 57th time my jaw still drops. The show is just warped, it’s like it’s from another world, like the models/creatures just stepped off of a space ship or out of the deepest oceans and gave Paris a little slap in the face. So this is when I contradict the latest post about shoes being boring this season. Compared to stuff like Nina Ricci last season, they were and I stand by that there have been a million flats everywhere. But then comes McQueen and makes me have to change my story. A little at least. These ones look like some sort of mutant wales:
And another thing I wanted to add to my defiance of my own statement is- although the shoes may have been closer to the ground on the runways this season I think the development of shoes has moved at the speed of light in the past couple of years. They are taking all kinds of shapes and including all kinds of materials. The shoe is not just a shoe. It’s a piece of art. Now a lot of people would argue that the shoe has always been a piece of art; old Italian shoemakers like Salvatore Ferragamo would probably pull my hair and pinch my nose. What I’m saying is that shoe designing lately has taken a lot of alternative roads, leading to often very innovative shoes. Swedish design students Tove Jansson and Per Emanuelsson won the 2009 Shoemania design competition with these crazy chain heel things:

Ok and here comes a little piece of vague advice for those living in the San Francisco area. These pretty things exist somewhere in Upper Haight, unfortunately I can’t tell you which store. I know there are a lot of shops containing heels up there but I dare to say these are worth taking a few hours to track down. I also know we might be getting a little sick of studs and such, but I still think these are pretty cool.
