Boys boys boys

I am back in Sweden for Christmas. The country is covered in snow and my mother is cooking me yummie green holiday meals. Before I left however I did a little menswear shoot with 6 delicious boys from Ford. They were meant to be a group of brothers and friends who have run away from home and are hiding out in this warehouse. Remember The Outsiders? That atmosphere. It’s them against the world. The look is very Scandinavian, lots of chaps running around the streets of Stockholm and Göteborg lookin’ like this. There is some working class in there, some simplicity, some prep and lots of rough. It’s practical clothing, but it looks good. The photographer is Rus Anson, who I’ve worked with on a lot of shoots. She is absolutely fantastic and has a special way of looking at everything she does. It’s hard to explain but my hat always comes off for her. Working with people like Rus makes you so much better at what YOU are there to do, because you let everything else go. I can be a control freak and if I’m unsure of the photographer or anyone else involved, their job becomes my job too. Hah. Anyhoe, here are some of the pics.

Marry Me Chadwick Tyler. Or at least accompany me in the shower.

A photographer I just can’t get over is Chadwick Tyler. Reading interviews with him and looking at his work makes me want to marry him. Or go for a quickie in the shower. The latter being the more probable.

Diva behavior is not accepted with Tyler. When a model is being difficult he sends her home. His explanation for that is “difficult = asshole = not cute = homeward bound”. Need I say more about my love for this man?

Tyler did this shoot with Tabea Kobach, german teenager who got signed with Marilyn 1-2 years ago, for LURVE magazine that is absolutely amazing.

Au Revoir Daul

Wow. Daul Kim was found dead in her Paris apartment yesterday. She committed suicide. Apparently she was suffering from insomnia and was deeply depressed. This makes me sad. She was a beautiful little lady with a lot to say. Daul Kim has been blogging for years and had quite the following. Her last post was titled “say hi to forever”. She wrote some bad shit crazy stuff on that blog, very worth reading. She’s also done a lot of video diaries. Girl seemed up front, real and smart.

Be Very Afraid

Notice how superheroes and villains are a constant theme in fashion? I recently did a presentation on how bad guys/extraterrestrials/freaks are influencing everything runnin’ down the runway this season. Last season. Every season. I am also writing a paper on how violence on TV relates to what direction fashion trends are taking. Let me draw some parallels. First an obvious one, one of the shows getting the most attention this season, Alex McQueen. All underwater creatures and aliens. If that ain’t ET fashion I don’t know what is.

Did anyone see Lady CaCa’s latest video? Duh. “Bad Romance”; full of it. Alien, that is.

A Modern Warrior

Okay now I’m starting to be really excited for the shoot I am doing this weekend. My friend Anette is a designer with her own brand and also works as an in-house designer for San Francisco’s pride (or mine at least) Harput’s Union. On Sunday we are using some of her older designs to put together a very stylish (!) clean cut warrior princess. Anette is very into minimalism and simplicity, so I thought it’d be fun to combine that with some aggressiveness and rough love. Ever since I laid eyes on that warrior headpiece in my previous post I’ve been obsessed with it. At first I thought, fuck it, I’ll pay rent some other time and go get the Scott Wilson (like a month’s rent would be enough?). Then I realized just how insufficient my funds were and came down from the clouds. Sooo I thought, fuck it, Britex here I come! I’ll make my own little warrior princess hat. But theen I realized that type of D.I.Y. requires one of those wunderkinds I also spoke of in my last post. I am not one of those. Thing would look CHEAP. So I have now accepted the fact that there won’t be a Scott Wilson (-looking) headpiece but I do get to borrow these gloves from my friend Domonique, who is another amazing designer here in SF. They are FUCKING FIERCE (and I don’t even use the term “fierce” since Beoyncé developed schizophrenia. Wait, I never used it. You just witnessed my debut.)

Pics from the shoot will follow in the next couple of weeks!

head

We really should start wearing more hats. There is this headpiece that was featured in i-D magazine that I seem to be finding on every blog, and no I am not telling you to wear this out but it is quite extraordinary. Just enjoy it.

It is made by Scott Wilson who has also worked with Hussein Chalayan, Matthew Williamson, Givenchy etc. on creating headpieces and jewelry for their runway shows and campaigns.

Sea creatures & chains

Looking at McQueen for like the 57th time my jaw still drops. The show is just warped, it’s like it’s from another world, like the models/creatures just stepped off of a space ship or out of the deepest oceans and gave Paris a little slap in the face. So this is when I contradict the latest post about shoes being boring this season. Compared to stuff like Nina Ricci last season, they were and I stand by that there have been a million flats everywhere. But then comes McQueen and makes me have to change my story. A little at least. These ones look like some sort of mutant wales:
