I jumped right in to help when getting a call from my friend LaQuan asking me to do the music for his show. I have been a huge believer in his career since I first met him a little over two years ago. I had no doubt in my mind that this kid (19 then) was destined for greatness. Attending his debut show yesterday was proof of that. I felt so lucky to be apart of it and to witness the launch of a talented new creative. It’s going to be very exciting to see his career blossom.

Nery Maldonado came to visit New York and I promised her a photo shoot while she was here. Then last night we hung out I realized that we had not done our shoot and her flight was scheduled to leave early morning. So instead I grabbed her point and shoot camera and made this film. The film revolves around Sweet Paradise bar where we first partied the first night she arrived and the last night before she left…
This past weekend I took a trip to Philadelphia for the first time with Julie B and Chris Bond. We went to visit our friend Alex Leigh who was throwing his once a month “Big Purity Dance Party” to coincide with the launch of his zine “Cumrag“. The party was mad fun and we all got pretty wasted, some of us even disappeared. So the next day without waiting to recover from the party we decided to head to the Mutter Museum of medical oddities! I have never seen the Bodies Exhibit nor have I ever set my eyes on the disturbing shit that I had seen at this museum. It took me a while to realize that the siamese fetuses and the Soap Lady (a corpse of a woman preserved by a natural phenomenon) were actually real and when it comes to blood, guts and weird shit like that I must confess I get a bit squeamish. To top it off I was still hungover and had to bow down every now and then to prevent myself from dry heaving the cheap champagne I had consumed the previous night. Personally the best part for me, that I am still obsessing over, were the hearts in the glass cases. I have never seen a real heart before and never realized how incredibly beautiful they are. Overall the museum was great and I highly recommend you pay a visit if you are ever in Philly.
Since the first time I watched Boomerang[1992 Eddie Murphy film] as a kid, I found myself deeply intrigued by the enigma that is Grace Jones. The scene of Ms. Jones groaning and stomping her legs, left then right, and giving birth to STRANGE´[a bottle of perfume] will never exit my mind, I would never allow it. If you have not seen Boomerang, make sure you netflix it or rent it. Mmm “Stinks So Good!”…
Grace Jones is blessed with her striking features, ability to defy age, and insane personality. What I am currently inspired by is her music. Her voice is great and the songs I am hooked to are the more disco ones. I recommend you check her albums out and find some danceable tunes you might want for your next party.
I have always been inspired by powerful, independent women and Grace Jones, no doubt, is pretty hardcore. She is fearless, fearless of repressing her personality. That is what is most important, to express yourself and be who you want to be without fear of being judged.
If you have any free time check out her music videos on youtube, they will inspire you.
Publishing Issue 2 proved to be more challenging than the first. We somehow assumed that after Issue 1 it would be a breeze, we were wrong. Many things came into play that made this issue difficult such as, busy schedules, personal struggles, and the recession. However getting through it and finally launching was the most rewarding feeling ever. We realized the true potential of IN*TANDEM and it’s importance to the contributors as they are “The Engine” that run the magazine. At IN*TANDEM we understand that it can sometimes be difficult to work in the creative field, especially during times of hardships. Know that we are all on the same plane working our way up to whatever it is that makes us happy.
I hope you all have a great new year ringing it in with hope and optimism.
