Sah D’Simone | Stylist | Q&A

Born in 1986 in the city of Londrina, Brazil, Sah relocated to the US at the age of 17 with his family. Growing up in a family of clothing manufactures, Sah was destined to work in the fashion industry. He attended New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons New School to study fashion design. His passion took a quick turn when he was asked to style his first fashion photography shoot - from then on he knew he had the right fit.

Sah has been rocking the New York City fashion scene working non-stop since last year, collaborating with some of the city’s most talented photographers. He has been published in several magazines including Luel, metro.pop, and NYLON Korea to name a few. His style ranges from avant-garde to sophisticated rock-couture. With his outgoing personality and impeccable eye for style, you will surely see Sah D’Simone leaving a mark in the fashion world.

Q&A -

1. Where are you originally from?

I was born and raised in Brazil, my family reclocated to tampa florida when I was 17 years old.

2. What brought you to New York?

I was living in Los Angeles attending Fashion Design school, and one summer I decided that I was going to study in NYC for while I applied for a few schools to attend a summer program, also my friend Steven helped get an intership with Christian Siriano (one of the winners from project runaway). The plan was to stay in NYC for a couple of months to feel it out then come back to LA and finish my degree. I loved it here so much, forgot to mention that my sister was here with me as well. So main reason that I came to NY was to follow up with my studies of a fashion designer which later I attended the Fashion Institute of technology for womenswear and Parsons for Fine Arts.

LaQuan Smith Debut - NY A/W 2010

I jumped right in to help when getting a call from my friend LaQuan asking me to do the music for his show. I have been a huge believer in his career since I first met him a little over two years ago. I had no doubt in my mind that this kid (19 then) was destined for greatness. Attending his debut show yesterday was proof of that. I felt so lucky to be apart of it and to witness the launch of a talented new creative. It’s going to be very exciting to see his career blossom.

The site that I have found most inspiring online for the past 5 years is SHOWstudio.com, which is directed by one of my favorite fashion photographers Nick Knight. As a photographer I feel that the process of image making, or any other form of art, is just as important as the final result. What I love about SHOWstudio is that it focuses on the creative process, documenting all steps of creation from pre-production to post, rather than concentrating solely on the final result. It is where I find inspiration.
